Frequently Asked Questions

If we are a small jurisdiction, can we use Police Central on one PC without a server?

Definitely. We would recommend a P300 or better, with at least 64MB of memory and a 5GB hard drive. Police Central will perform well in those small environments.

If we are a large jurisdiction, can we run a SQL Server Database or Oracle?

Yes, and we can supply the database or use one of your existing licenses.

Can I take multiple mugshot photographs during the booking process?

Yes, you may take Supplemental Photographs of inmate marks, scars, tattoos or even injuries. Each photograph is attached to the Arrest Transaction and labeled using NCIC standards.

Does Police Central use Pop-Down boxes to ease entry of data?

Yes, Police Central has Pop-Down lists wherever standard entries are possible. We can even modify these lists for your local requirements.

Are our local and state arrest charges in the system?

Yes.

If a person is being booked, for example DUI, and he has an outstanding warrant, will the system tell the Booking Officer that there are additional Wants for that person?

Yes. We will even notify the Warrant Officer that that person is in custody, and has Warrants to be served.

Will Police Central prepare a list of incarcerated persons?

Yes, we automatically prepare a complete list of inmates, cell assignment and other relevant information. We can even print each inmate's mugshot on the Incarceration Report to aid in identifying each inmate.

Will Police Central produce Wanted Posters, Missing Posters and BOLOs?

Yes, the best you have ever seen--all customized to your agency.

Can we scan our history file of Polaroid mugshots?

Yes.

Can we use a Digital Mugshot camera to eliminate film or processing?

Absolutely. Or if you already have a video camera, we can use that, too.

Can we take mugshot photographs at one station, and then complete the Booking Transaction at another station?

Yes. Further, the Medical questionnaire and Inmate Property inventory could also be completed by other officers.

Can you interface with Livescan?

Yes

If we do not have Livescan, can Police Central fill out the fingerprint card to roll prints onto?

Yes.

Can we use our own hardware, or do we have to purchase it from Police Central?

You can acquire your hardware from any reliable source, including Police Central. We will be happy to provide you with our recommended configurations.

Can you convert data from our existing system?

That's a bit of an open question, but we have been consistently successful in converting data. In all likelihood, we can convert.

Does Police Central offer Onsite training?

Of course.

We have some local information that we need to track in our jurisdiction.  Can Police Central handle our local data needs?

Yes, we can fully customize our Supplemental Information section of the Arrest and Booking Module. This can contain any specialized or local information that you may require.

Sometimes we would like to add a short narrative to Bookings, or Warrants. Can we add narratives to our transactions?

Yes, every Police Central Module contains a narrative "Comments" field.  Also, any word or phrase is fully searchable.

Can I get a list of Outstanding Warrants?

Yes, it can be printed or displayed at any time.

Will the Police Central Citations Module prepare a Court Docket?

Yes.

Can the Police Central Civil Papers Module handle multiple defendants?

Yes, and each defendant service will be tracked individually and as part of the overall case.

How does Police Central prepare a LineUp?

Basically, search for persons with commons bios to your suspect. Then display the resulting photographs and choose the six or eight required for your LineUp. Police Central can also let you resize the "head size" to make sure they are all appear about the same size.

Can I put a photograph from another jurisdiction into my LineUp?

Yes.

Will Police Central prepare a transport document for transporting an inmate to a new facility?

Yes, and we can even prepare a diskette containing all photographs.

Where did Police Central gain its knowledge of Law Enforcement?

Our initial contact was with the Savannah Police Department and the Chatham County Sheriff's Office. Since then, almost every installation has made suggestions for new features and improvements. We feel that it is our users, Law Enforcement personnel, who have really designed Police Central software. The input from our chiefs, sheriffs, officers and deputies has been key to our success.

Can you help us determine our needs, and perhaps help with design specifications for our agency?

Yes, we have worked with several agencies in that manner. The key is to understand your local needs, your present methods and, of course, your budget. We are interested in helping your agency in any manner.

If Police Central is web-based, do we have any risk of unauthorized use of our records?

Absolutely not. Remember, we will install an "intranet" within your agency. All information is contained on your internal PC server. We are essentially running an internal "mini world wide web", accessible by only your authorized staff, within your office.

If we are a large jurisdiction with many offices, or several related agencies, can we run Police Central on the Internet?

You certainly can. Our software can run on the Internet as a secure site.  This means that any agency, user or individual with proper clearance can be provided with full access to Police Central. Investigators can use their Internet computers at home. Other remote agencies could be granted access at your discretion. Even the public could be granted limited privileges to review Wanted Posters, or your Police Central Sex Offender Registry. Your sheriff's office in the next county could share records with you. Or all of the PDs in a county could use the same Arrest & Booking database.

Remember, that millions of dollars are moved on the Internet every day.  There are security provisions that must be made--but the technology is certainly available and affordable.

Can we afford Police Central?

You will find that Police Central, with our leading technology and modular design is affordable by any size jurisdiction. We have very small PDs and SOs and some of the very largest. You will find our pricing HIGHLY attractive.

Can we use Police Central to maintain a Sex Offender Registry
as required by Megan's Law?

Yes. We can maintain full information for Sex Offender Registration, including photographs of the subject. We can automatically produce the Notice to the Neighborhood, if required. And we will prepare a monthly report of Offenders required to re-register.

We need to handle Juvenile records. Does Police Central allow us to identify juvenile subjects, and control access to those records?

Yes. Police Central automatically flags juvenile offenders, and labels the record with a visual flag. We restrict access to those records to authorized personnel, and we can exclude (or include) juvenile photographs from LineUps.

What kind of Administrative reports can Police Central produce.

We have a number of "standardized" reports that virtually all agencies would use. These include "Jail Population", "Block Hall Report", "All Outstanding Warrants", "List of Suspects", and others.

Can Police Central produce other, special reports?

Absolutely. Our Administrative Reports function will let you prepare virtually any kind of "ad hoc" report. For instance, you might search for "White, Male, Blue or Green Eyes, Height 6.00". Then you can ask for a report containing "Lname, Fname, Mname, Aliases, Arresting Officer, D/T of Arrest, and Release Date". If this is a report that you use often, we can even make it a standard report for your agency.

We house inmates for other jurisdictions. Will Police Central help us with our billing?

Yes. We can prepare a standard report each month, listing inmates housed for other agencies, the daily rate, total number of days housed, and the billing amount. Some agencies bill on an hourly rate, and we can do that, too.

How do we get updates and new releases?

We simply notify the Administrator that we have an update, and we dial into the server and upload. When we are through, we notify the Administrator, and all users instantly have the new features.

Can we use CDPD or MDT?

Certainly. Remember, all the remote PC requires is Microsoft Internet Explorer. It couldn't be easier.

Explain the security provisions of Police Central.

First, we use any security provisions provided by the network. In addition, however, we control access to Police Central as well. The Administrator can assign security rights for each user, AND for each module. As an example, a Booking Officer may have full rights to the Booking Module, view only rights to Medical and Warrants, and no rights to access the Citations module.

We do not have a "Systems Administrator". Do we have to have one? Can Police Central administer our system?

Perhaps not. Depending upon the size of your installation, a formal "SA" may not be necessary. We can remotely administer the system from our headquarters if desired.

What about ongoing costs and support contracts?

You will receive 120 days full support following the installation. Then we have a standard Maintenance and Support Contract that will be made available. This contract includes 24 hour support, and all software upgrades.

Will Police Central provide user references?

You bet. Give us a call and we will provide you a list of contacts.

How can we see a demonstration of Police Central?

Simply call us, and we will arrange a complete demonstration IN YOUR OFFICE, with any of your staff that you desire. Or, if it is more convenient, we can bring you to our Atlanta headquarters. We can also arrange visits to any of our users.
